March 28, 2018

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace has announced the names of 12 American students selected to join the next class of James C. Gaither Junior Fellows. Among this year’s winners is Austin Owen, the Glenn Ireland II Jefferson Scholar.

Austin is a government and foreign affairs major in the politics honors program and will receive a minor in Russian and East European studies. Over the last three and a half years, Austin has made his mark on the University community, serving as president, treasurer and oratory chair of the Jefferson Society, as managing editor of Seriatim Journal of American Politics, and on the legislative affairs committee of student council.

As a James C. Gaither Junior Fellow, Austin will work directly with former ambassador to Russia and Jordan William Burns, the current president of the Carnegie Endowment. To read more about Austin’s plans, read this recent UVA Today article.
