Selection Overview


The Darden Jefferson Fellowship is the most prestigious and generous fellowship offered at the Darden School of Business. Valued at approximately $220,000, the Fellowship provides:

  • A living stipend of $20,000 renewable for two years
  • Research and travel funds up to $7,000
  • Full tuition and fees
  • Health insurance

Individuals invited to compete for the Darden Jefferson Fellowship must first submit an application that includes the following:

  • One-page resume
  • Response to the Darden admissions essays questions. You will be able to download a copy of the essay prompts from our application.
  • Transcript of all college and/or university work

For selected finalists, the Jefferson Fellowship Competition takes place during a two-day visit to the historic Grounds of the University of Virginia and the Darden School of Business. Candidates will spend a day exploring the Darden community, including a case discussion led by a member of Darden’s top-ranked faculty and meetings with members of the faculty, administrators, and current students. The day concludes with a dinner at the Jefferson Scholars Foundation with distinguished alumni of UVA and Darden and other special guests. The competition concludes with a panel interview.
