Selection Overview


The Darden Jefferson Fellowship is the most prestigious and generous fellowship offered at the Darden School of Business. Valued at approximately $227,000, the Fellowship provides:

  • A living stipend of $20,000, renewable for two years
  • Research and travel funds up to $7,000 for the duration of the Fellowship
  • Full tuition and fees
  • Health insurance

UVA and Darden alumni review applications and select finalists for the Jefferson Fellowship Competition. Finalists are invited to Charlottesville to visit the Grounds of the University of Virginia and the Darden School of Business. During their visit, they participate in a case discussion with a Darden faculty member, meet with faculty, administrators, and current students, and attend a dinner with distinguished alumni and guests. The competition ends with a panel interview.

Individuals invited to compete for the Darden Jefferson Fellowship must first submit an application that includes the following:

  • One-page resume
  • Response to the Darden admissions essays questions. You will be able to download a copy of the essay prompts from our application.
  • Transcript of all college and/or university work
