Rostislav’s doctoral work focuses on knot theory, part of the branch of mathematics known as topology. Specifically, he examines the algebraic structures that arise from knots. During his time at U.Va., he served as an assistant for Math Circle, an outreach program designed to expose elementary and middle school students to geometry, logic, combinatorics, and algebra. He also served as a mentor for the Directed Reading Program at U.Va., which pairs undergraduate students with graduate student mentors for semester-long independent reading projects, and he worked as a graduate teaching assistant for U.Va.’s 2020 Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program.
