Cynthia Nicoletti, the John L. Nau III Jefferson Fellow, recently received the American Society for Legal History’s Cromwell Book Prize for her 2017 book Secession on Trial: The Treason Prosecution of Jefferson Davis. Cynthia, who is now a professor at U.Va.’s School of Law, examines the legality of secession through Jefferson Davis’s treason prosecution.
