Three years after joining the faculty of U.Va.’s School of Engineering and Applied Science in 2009, Gavin Garner, assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, was selected as one of just four recipients of the Foundation’s 2012 Hartfield Teaching Prize, an award designed to recognize engineering faculty for their outstanding classroom teaching and curriculum development. Gavin continues to live up to the recognition he has received, serving as an advisor for U.Va.’s student chapters of ASME and Pi Tau Sigma, the international Mechanical Engineering Honor Society. Gavin is also lending his mentorship and expertise to a new student group that call themselves Gizmologists. Read about this new student organization, Gavin’s role in mentoring the group, and about the group’s latest creation in this recent UVA Today article.
