Alumni Internship Program
The summer before their fourth and final year at the University, Scholars may choose to participate in an internship with a Jefferson Scholar Alumna/us. Matches are made by the Foundation Staff based on field of interest and location. Funding is available to cover living expenses for the Scholar during the time of the unpaid internship.

Details about the Internship Program:
- Available subjects/areas/topics of internships are very broad and range from medicine to business to non-profit, and everything in between
- Internships range anywhere from 1 day of shadowing to a three week program to a full-blown summer-long internship
- Scholars are eligible for up to approximately $1000 in financial assistance to cover their living expenses during the internship, as demonstrated in a budget prepared ahead of time by the Scholar
- The structure of the program is very flexible; Scholars have a great deal of control over when, where, and with whom they wish to set up an internship
- Alumni also provide general career and graduate school advice to current Scholars during this particular summer and throughout their four years as Jefferson Scholars
“From May through July 2010, the Jefferson Scholars Foundation and Jefferson Scholar alumnus Kevin Simowitz supported my work as an intern at Virginia Organizing, a statewide community organizing group working for social justice in Virginia. As an organizer for Virginia Organizing, Mr. Simowitz helped to shape my internship experience and was a source of encouragement, knowledge and guidance throughout my internship..My experience with Virginia Organizing and Mr. Simowitz’s guidance have helped me to make the choice to apply to law schools and to work towards a career that will promote social justice, and I am truly grateful to have been afforded this opportunity.” Lauren Groetch (JS ’11)
