Accessible via Jefferson Scholars Foundation website; hard copies sent to finalists

March 7, 2006 | As of today, finalists in the 2006 Jefferson Scholars competition may access the reading materials needed to prepare for the essay and seminar portions of Jefferson Scholars Selection Weekend. While the essay and both seminars focus on Hurricane Katrina, there are separate readings for each seminar.

Readings available here are in Adobe PDF format. Also, the Jefferson Scholars Foundation has sent these materials to finalists via FedEx two-day service (sent March 7).

Seminar I:
"Hurricane Katrina and the Arts: Rebuilding and Rethinking"
Jefferson Scholars Download PDF (2.5 MB)

Seminar II:
"How Science Can Help Predict Disasters Such as Hurricane Katrina"
Jefferson Scholars Download PDF (12.3 MB)

No outside research nor additional reading is required to prepare for the essay or to participate in the seminars. Finalists will be allowed to take the readings into the exam room for the essay assignment, but no other materials will be accepted.

In closing, finalists are reminded to bring a calculator for the math exam.
