New Home

In 2005, the leaders of the Jefferson Scholars Foundation realized that if it were to succeed in attracting the most qualified Ph.D. students to the University, it must create an intellectual community that fostered interdisciplinary research and dialogue. One way to strengthen this community was to build it around a Jefferson Fellows Center.

The Foundation discussed spatial needs with Jefferson Fellows and architectural planning for the Foundation’s new homeĀ  began shortly thereafter. The Foundation decided to rely on capital markets to finance construction, which began in the fall of 2008. The Foundation moved into the 32,700 square-foot facility in March 2010. The environmentally sustainable facility is composed of four connected structures: the Foundation offices, Foundation Hall (a large event space), the Jefferson Fellows Center (complete with state-of-the-art conference rooms and Fellow offices) and the Jan and Rick Kellogg Reading Room (a place for quiet study).
