“I came to U.Va. because I was attracted by the sense of honor, honesty, integrity and respect so many of the students, professors, and administrators exhibited. Simply put, people here care—about issues, about other people, about themselves and the standard of their own work. I craved a place where the process of learning and of engaging was as important as the product. My high school may have been small and private, but it sought to teach us all how to gain respect by showing respect… U.Va. shares that spirit, and so does the Jefferson Scholars community… I came here to be with people who appreciated what they had in life and who would strive, like I would, to do good with their gifts.”
As a second year, Anya plans to major in Classics. She spends her extracurricular time participating on the award-winning Virginia Mock Trial team. She is also a member of both the University Judiciary Committee as well as the Catholic Student Ministry.
