“I am from Baltimore, and now live in Wynnewood, PA, outside of Philadelphia.

“For the past 12 years, I have been working in the financial services arena, both in trading financial derivative products and in managing a 1500-person global trading firm, Susquehanna International Group, LLP.  Products I have traded over the years include equities, equity options, index futures, American Depositary Receipts, municipal bonds, corporate bonds, and treasury bonds.  In addition, I have established and run our global private equity and venture capital businesses, and currently oversee firm-wide compensation and personnel moves.  I have also been active with several non-profits, most recently serving on the board of Programs Employing People, an organization that provides employment and day activities for mentally retarded adults.

“For a long time, when I would reflect on the Jefferson Scholarship, I would feel fortunate that the Program brought me to the University of Virginia, a place where I could explore my passions, be surrounded by inspirational friends, and revel in the wonders of student self-governance at work.  It was only later, with the benefit of separation, that I realized that many of the reasons I was so happy at the University were so heavily influenced by the Scholarship.   I sang in an a cappella group that was founded by a JSF finalist (who came to the University without a Scholarship), and the group had a couple of JSF upperclassmen as members.  Looking around me, I found that the areas of the University that made it so unique and wonderful, like the honor council, were frequently led by Jefferson Scholars.  The cumulative impact of the program, both through the Scholars and through others attracted to the University by the program, provided the foundation for the University that I so thoroughly love.”
